Kansas Department of Transportation: KDOT administers public transportation programs funded by the Federal Transit Administration and the State of Kansas. Both the federal and state programs are designed to meet the transportation needs of elderly persons, persons with disabilities, and the general public. KDOT currently supports approximately 145 transit programs covering most of the state’s 105 counties.
Kansas RTAP: KU RTAP works to improve the mobility of all rural Kansas through quality training and technical assistance to rural and specialized transit providers. Kansas RTAP has offered services since 1987. They have a variety of services to Kansas’ rural and specialized transit agencies including quarterly newsletters, regular training, video and publication lending library, and technical assistance.
Federal Transit Administration: The FTA provides financial and technical assistance to local public transit systems, including buses, subways, light rail, commuter rail, trolleys, and ferries. FTA also oversees safety measures and helps develop next-generation technology research.
Statewide Plan for Independent Living Transportation Group: This workgroup is part of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Kansas. Their goal is to provide the best information possible regarding the transportation services being offered in the state of Kansas, attempt to network those services for the customers they serve, and pass along any successes, improvements, pitfalls, or roadblocks to the Statewide Independent Living Council of Kansas (SILCK) for purposes of systems advocacy.
Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns : The KCDC provides policy guidance to the government of Kansas and disability-related information to the people of Kansas, including, such as Disability Service Maps, Resources, ADA Information, Legislative Information and more.
Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance: The Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance is a non-profit organization that educates the public on transit accessibility, gathers public opinion, communicates, and advocates to expand, enhance, and improve today’s transit options. KCRTA maintains a constant dialogue with metro area public officials who ultimately bring the decisions to develop better public transportation to you. Our mission is to expand, enhance, and improve mass transit in the Kansas City region.
National RTAP: The National RTAP’s overarching mission is to address the training and technical assistance needs of rural, and tribal transit operators across the nation, and to support the state RTAP programs. Their comprehensive set of free technical assistance programs and resources includes training materials, webinars, newsletters and technical briefs, peer resources, research, and innovative technology initiatives.
National Center for Mobility Management: The National Center for Mobility Management is a national technical assistance center funded through a cooperative agreement with the Federal Transit Administration and operated through a consortium of three national organizations—the American Public Transportation Association, the Community Transportation Association of America, and Easterseals Inc. The purpose is to faciliate transportation coordination and mobility management.
